Obtaining your Spartan Card

In order to receive a Spartan Card, you will need to visit the ID Office and present a government issued photo ID (US driver's license, passport, state ID or military ID).  Eligibility requirements are listed below.

  • Students

In order to obtain your Spartan Card you must know your student ID number and be enrolled in classes for the current term.

Freshmen and transfer students attending New Student Orientation (NSO) may submit their photos online and have their cards ready for expedited pickup.

Graduate, lifelong and students exempt from NSO need come to the ID Office to obtain their Spartan Cards.

Your Spartan Card is valid throughout your entire academic career at MSU.  Your first Spartan Card is issued to you at no cost. Replacement cards are $20.00 and are billed to your student account.

*We are in the process of transitioning from APIDs to student ID numbers as the unique identifier for students. Some systems will use the Student ID number and some systems will use the APID. The student ID number is the same as the APID except that the A is replaced with a 1. For example, a student whose APID is A01234567 would have an student ID number of 101234567.

  • Faculty, Staff and Retirees

In order to obtain your Spartan Card, you must have an active appointment in the Human Resources employment system. For retirees, an MSU Retiree designation in the employment system is required.

Your Spartan Card is valid throughout your entire career at MSU.  Your first Spartan Card is issued to you at no cost. Replacement cards are $10.00.

  • Virtual Spartan Card

MSU Students and employees have access to a virtual ID, which can be found in the MSU App - available for iOS and Android. Students with photos on their records will have that photo displayed on the Virtual Spartan Card.

Please note that Spartan Card photos are not loaded onto the virtual ID for Faculty/Staff at this time.
