SPARTANS WILL|© Michigan State University|

If you are a returning student that has a Spartan Card from a previous year, you do NOT need to obtain a new Spartan Card.

If your Spartan Card is lost, stolen, or damaged, you may come to the ID Office during our business hours to obtain your replacement Spartan Card. You will need to provide your student ID number (a 9-digit number starting with 1 which can be found in your student portal). If you wish to keep the same picture on the replacement card, you do not need to bring additional documentation. If you wish to take a new picture for your replacement Spartan Card, a government issued photo ID is required (passport, US driver's license, and US State ID).

If your Spartan Card is lost or stolen and you have Spartan Cash or meals on your card, we recommend you deactivate your Spartan Card at the Spartan Cash website. If you find your Spartan Card and no longer need a replacement, you can reactivate your card on the Spartan Cash website.

There is a $20 charge for the replacement Spartan Card, which is billed directly to your Student Account. Please note, we cannot accept Spartan Cash, cash or credit card payments for a replacement student Spartan card.

If you have had a last name change, you may get a new Spartan Card to reflect your new last name. Before coming in for a new Spartan Card, you must first update your last name with the Registrar's Office. It may take several business days for the change to reflect in our systems (we advise calling our office to verify we see the change before coming in for you replacement Spartan Card). As long as we can see your updated last name in the Student Information System and on your government issued photo ID, we will provide the replacement Spartan Card at no cost. If you have questions about other name changes, please contact the ID Office for information.

If you find someone else’s Spartan Card, please return it to our office in the International Center at 427 N Shaw Lane.
