Getting Your Spartan Card

New Employees

The MSU ID Office is responsible for helping you establish your NetID (online credential) and acquire your Spartan Card (physical credential). If you are a new employee seeking to activate your MSU NetID, proceed to the NetID Website for instructions.

As a new employee, you can come to the ID Office to obtain your Spartan Card during our business hours. When you come to pickup your Spartan Card, you will need to provide a government issued photo ID (passport, US driver's license, and US State ID). The photo for your Spartan Card will be taken at our office during your visit and the Spartan Card will be printed while you wait. Online photo upload for employees is not available at this time.

Please note, your employment information must be fully processed by MSU Central HR for the ID Office to see an account for you in our systems. If your hiring paperwork has not been fully processed, we are unable to provision the NetID or issue the Spartan Card. If you are unsure whether you are in our system as an employee, please contact us at 517-355-4500 prior to coming to our office. Note: If you are being hired into an academic role, an account may be provisioned in advance of MSU Central HR fully completing your hiring – please call our office for additional information.

Remote Employees

If you are unable to come to our office to obtain your Spartan Card, your department may request that a non-photo, non-prox Spartan Card be mailed to you. Please have your departmental HR representative email us at idoffice@msu.edu with the request. The email should include confirmation of your employment with the department, your name and ZPID, and the mailing address to send the Spartan Card to.

Current employees

If you are a current employee who did not obtain your Spartan Card, you can come to the ID Office to obtain your Spartan Card during our business hours. When you come to acquire your Spartan Card, you will need to provide a government issued photo ID (passport, US driver's license, and US State ID). The photo for your Spartan Card will be taken at our office during your visit and the Spartan Card will be printed while you wait. Online photo upload for employees is not available at this time.

If your Spartan Card photo is over 6 years old, you can come to the ID Office for a free Spartan Card replacement. The ID Office encourages you to have an up-to-date picture on your ID card and therefore will not charge for these replacements.
